Labor and DeliveryAll of the rooms in our Mother and Baby Unit are spacious, private and beautifully decorated to create a home-like atmosphere. Large enough to allow family and friends to visit or share your birthing experience, each room has a day-bed so the new mother never has to be alone and that important person has space to relax and sleep. Women do not have to shuffle from one room to the next during their hospital stay….
Labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care are all provided in the same room. These unique rooms, called LDRP rooms, allow mothers to settle in and save energy for the process of labor, delivery and recovery. Each room is fully equipped with fetal monitors, beds that pull apart for delivery, and advanced medical equipment. After delivery, the rooms accommodate safe rooming-in with infant warmers and apnea monitors. Women who choose Blue Ridge Regional Hospital for labor and delivery count on:
Medical options to ease labor pain
Anesthesiologists on site to provide epidurals
Surgical suite located next to the Mother and Baby Unit for emergencies and cesarean sections Mother and BabyOur new mothers especially appreciate LDRP rooms after their baby is born. Unless a medical condition requires specialized attention in the nursery or intensive care, babies room-in with their mothers. This creates extra time for bonding and allows personalized attention from nurses trained in postpartum and infant care. We're here to answer questions and help you become comfortable with breastfeeding and caring for your new baby. During this time, quality healthcare continues in a safe and supportive environment:

We also ask everyone to remember that during this wonderful time, new mothers go through tremendous physical and emotional changes, so please be sensitive to their needs.
Important Security InformationHaving an open visitation policy does not mean that we take security lightly. Our labor and delivery department remains locked at all times; only authorized visitors are allowed to enter the area. The unit is monitored with video surveillance equipment and windows are outfitted with an alarm system that not only alerts the staff if they are opened, but immediately notifies the police department.
Advanced Neonatal CareShould your baby need specialized intensive care, be assured that the physicians and nurses at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital are experienced and qualified to assess and stabilize newborns. As part of the Mission Health System, we have procedures already in place to transfer newborns to Mission Children's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where appropriate.
Mission's Infant Transport Team provides rapid critical care while transporting your newborn to the NIC via ground or air. Mission's Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) has two helicopters available and is fully prepared for neonatal transport.
